Social Media Holidays

This week, President’s Day isn’t the only holiday. On February 17th, we also celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day and on the 20th we honor our non-human families with Love your Pet Day.

Social media has definitely sparked many holidays to become more popular. We may not celebrate with the three-day weekend perks that President’s Day provides many, but it does trigger an increase in activity on social platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Random Acts of Kindness Day is celebrated every February 17th and has grown in popularity each year. Many individuals, groups and organizations celebrate nationwide to encourage compassion. By posting a video or picture of their acts they spread the word and encourage the spirit of kindness.

Here are some random acts of kindness that went viral in 2019. https://www.foxnews.com/us/best-of-2019-seven-acts-of-kindness-that-went-viral

On Thursday, expect to see an increase in pictures and videos of dogs, cats, fish and birds as Love Your Pet Day is sure to inspire pet owners to share their adorable non-human family members.

According to https://nationaldaycalendar.com, there is a list of ways you can honor your pet besides posting a great picture.

Bring your pet a special treat, take an extra-long walk or give them more attention. Other ideas include:

· Check that their vaccines are up to date.

· Watch a pet video with them full of cats, dogs and other critters.

· Give them a few extra strokes with the brush while grooming.

· Practice their favorite commands – sit, shake, rollover.

· Play their favorite game or bring out their best toy.

· Inspect their toys to make sure they’re in good shape. Throw out any broken toys.

· Wash their bedding, even if it’s not their laundry day. Let them fluff it up just the way they like it.

Whatever you decide to do, spoil and appreciate your pets! Use #NationalLoveYourPetDay to post on social media.

Animals are a great marketing tool seen as a common and effective way of grabbing an audience’s attention. Geico has exploited geckos, camels, woodchucks and raccoons in their advertising. Many other marketing campaigns have utilized animals from public service announcements including Smokey the Bear to quality branding like the Lacoste crocodile. Have you considered using an animal in your marketing plan?

BBD Marketing Solutions is excited to see all of the positive posts this week with Random Acts of Kindness and pets sure to dominate the social media feeds.
