Tips on Content Creation

One of the keys to a successful social media presence is to consistently post effective content. Creating content can present itself as a daunting task. But there are some ways to simplify the process:

Vlogging or blogging- Creating long form content can produce smaller pieces of content to be used for social media. Create a long form video and then use smaller tidbits as social media posts. The short version of the video will grab your audience’s attention on social media and then drive traffic to the longer form on your website. If you are not into producing videos, blogs can be used in the same manner.

Short and sweet- Keep in mind social media posts do not have to be long and in depth. In fact, shorter, attention grabbing posts tend to be more successful.

Website content- Your website is chock full of content. You put lots of time and energy into developing your website. Post pieces of content from your website to drive traffic back to your website.

Imitation is the best form of flattery- Check out what your competition. See what your competition is posting on their social media. See if you can do it better. Keep in mind plagiarism is not cool.

You are an expert- You may take for granted what you know. If you are running a successful business, you are an expert in your field. Share what you know with your clients. Proving you are an expert makes you a reliable and trust resource.

A day in the life- Kids have career day and take your child to work day to explore new careers. A day in the life isn’t just for kids. People are interested in how other’s live their lives. You day to day may seem mundane to you but will be interesting to those not living it. It also helps to emphasize your expertise in your field.

Portfolio of work-Whether you are a landscaper, a HVAC technician or an actual artist, your work is art. Show it off! Before and after shots can be extremely effective. Showing off your work also reinforces your expertise and quality of work.

Relate to trending topics- Jump on the bandwagon to help expand your reach organically. Creatively relate your business to a popular topic. We wrote an entire blog post on this subject and jumped on the Tiger King trend. Check it out!

Ask a question- This seems so simple but it is very effective. Asking a question can increase your engagement but can also provide you with future content. Use the answers to your question to create longer form content like a blog or vlog. Give the people what they want/ ask/respond to.

Create a poll- Creating a poll can provide similar results to asking a question. Polls can increase your engagement and also provide insight to your customers.

Using these techniques can make the content creation process a little less overwhelming. While creating content also keep in mind that the purpose of social media is to entertain, share/educate and connect with people. If running your business doesn’t allow time for this task or this still seems like an intimidating process consider hiring a social media manager or agency.
